Learn MoreWebinar Series: Fire Ecology and Forest Resilience in the Pacific NW (3 of 8)
Webinar: Fire Ecology and Forest Resilience in the Pacific Northwest. This episode focuses on the evolving science and practice of ecological silviculture to restore dry forests of the Interior West
Learn MoreWebinar Series: Fire Ecology and Forest Resilience in the Pacific NW (4 of 8)
In this episode of the webinar series, we present lessons from the 2021 and 2022 fires across eastern and western Washington. We highlight how wildfires have both positive and negative effects, depending on location, forest type, and landowner objectives.

Fire activity has increased in the last several decades, including both small and moderately size mixed-severity fires, and well as multiple very large, high-severity wildfires during dry, east wind events. Cumulatively, contemporary fires have reduced late successional and old-growth forest habitat, while also contributing to the complexity of future old-growth forests and creating structurally diverse early seral habitats that were rare until recently.

Learn MoreToxics Release Inventory Reporting for RY 2023: Wood Products
A webinar for wood products facilities will be hosted by Zach Emerson and Ric Law on Wednesday, April 10. This webinar will focus on TRI basics, including chemical identification, threshold calculations and release reporting as well as topics specific to wood products facilities (including relevant chemicals, important data and recent questions and issues).
Learn MoreWebinar Series: Fire Ecology and Forest Resilience in the Pacific NW (6 of 8)
In this webinar, we’ll cover an overview of fire refugia concepts, an introduction to fire refugia models and data we’ve developed for the Pacific Northwest region, describe how we’ve “socialized” these data products with the forest management/practitioner community, and provide some example applications and ideas for future integration of these concepts into vegetation management decisions, planning, and conservation-adaptation.

Learn MoreWebinar Series: Fire Ecology and Forest Resilience in the Pacific NW (7 of 8)
I’ll use case studies to highlight the ecological role of fire and observed fire effects on several fires within the Olympic Mountains as well as other fires I have supported through my work as a fire analyst.
