2015 Forest Inventory and Analysis Science Symposium

The U.S. Forest Service, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program has announced that the 2015 FIA Science Symposium will be held on December 8 – 10 in Portland, Oregon. The theme of the biennial meeting will be “Pushing Boundaries – New Directions in Inventory Techniques & Applications.”

The Service indicates that the symposium will emphasize “the development of innovative approaches to incorporating non-traditional techniques and uses of inventory information. The Symposium brings together international forest scientists, managers, and stakeholders to share insights on a wide variety of topics, including contemporary issues, science policy, mensuration, geospatial products, and inventory methods.”

Stated goals of the symposium are to

  • provide a forum for linking issue-focused analyses with techniques development;
  • highlight cutting-edge mensuration, modeling, and related science;
  • present the role of forest inventory in aiding policy and management decisions;
  • exchange of forest monitoring science and technology across international borders;
  • display state-of-the-art science and tools; and
  • foster networking and scientific exchange between inventory professionals.

The Symposium offers an opportunity to learn about FIA-related research and provide feedback to FIA scientists. More information about the symposium, including a second call for papers can be found at http://www.fia.fs.fed.us/symposium/.
