2017 Southern Regional Meeting

June 12 - 14, 2017


Location: Greenville, South Carolina

Plans are now being completed for the Southern Regional Meeting scheduled for June 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency, Greenville, South Carolina. The program, organized by Vipin Varma and NCASI Member Coordinators, with guidance from the Southern Regional Committee, continues to focus on regulatory developments, technical studies on relevant environmental issues, and industry activity in environmental compliance and implementation of control technologies. Participation by member companies, sustaining members, regulatory agencies and university personnel is encouraged, as it helps advance a common understanding of the above topics.

Meeting Overview

Workshops

Three workshops will be offered prior to the meeting, on the morning of June 12. Two workshops will be on air topics: A Primer on Permitting for a Capacity Expansion with focus on PM2.5 and Implementing Method 202 Best Practices in the Field. Concurrently, a workshop on Wastewater Treatment Plant Fundamentals – Putting Data into Action is also being planned.

Technical Sessions

The General Session, on the afternoon of Monday, June 12, will cover topics of general interest including industry benchmarking, current and future trends in US forestry activities, environmental and industrial applications of drone technology, and an update on regulatory initiatives in the southern region.

The Water Quality Technical Session on June 13 will summarize key regulatory activities at the federal and state level, including recent state activity on surface water quality standards, human health water quality criteria developments, mill water use reduction practices, implications of regional groundwater modeling activities, updates on conductivity based criteria, and regional TMDL developments. The Wood Products Technical Session on June 13 will focus on the upcoming PCWP MACT II and RTR along with NCASI work related to this rulemaking, case studies on overcoming permitting challenges, and emissions measurement and estimation issues of current interest to the wood products sector. The Forestry Technical Session on June 13 will focus on wetland forest conservation, management and research in the Southeast. The Sustainable Manufacturing and Climate Session on June 13 will include presentations on wide-ranging topics such as customer expectations with regard to sustainable manufacturing, water use and sustainability metrics, and beneficial use opportunities and challenges. . The two Air Quality Technical Sessions on June 13 and 14 will address both ongoing and upcoming regulatory developments, updates to modeling guidance listed in Appendix W, status of electronic reporting tool (ERT) requirements, overview of “Next Gen” compliance tools, and recent work related to PM2.5 measurement methods. An interactive panel discussion with state regulators focused on regional permitting activities will be featured during one of the sessions.

Networking Opportunities

As in the past, we have invited our Sustaining Members to participate in our meeting through tabletop presentations during the traditional reception on June 12. This will be an opportunity for attendees to get technical updates from our Sustaining Members.

Registration

Meeting registration will be exclusively online. Register at the special Southern Regional Meeting site.

The registration fee is used to defray part of the costs of food, beverage, and meeting rooms. Fees are payable by credit card online, or by check at the meeting or mailed in advance to the Southern Regional Center. We cannot accept credit card payments at the meeting.

  • $275 for Members, Sustaining Members, and Others for the entire meeting
  • $125 for Regulatory and Academic for the entire meeting
  • $200 for Members, Sustaining Members, and Others for one day of technical sessions
  • $75 for Regulatory and Academic for one day of technical sessions
  • Workshops are free for registered attendees for one or more days of the meeting
  • $75 for Workshop attendees NOT attending other paid meeting event
  • $50.00 for Sustaining Members to reserve an Exhibit Table

Lodging

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hyatt Regency Greenville, 220 North Main Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29601. Room reservations may be made online or by calling 402-592-6434. Refer to NCASI by the cutoff date of Sunday, May 21, 2017. The sleeping room rate is $155.00 for a single or double, with complimentary wireless internet in guest rooms. Valet parking is $20/day with in and out privileges. Self-parking is available in the adjacent City Parking Garage called Commons Parking. This four-level garage is connected to the Hyatt Regency by a covered walkway. Costs are determined on an hourly basis. Each time a guest exits the parking structure, they will need to pay the current charge. The overnight parking charge is $7.50. We have arranged for complimentary shuttle service to and from the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. To make a shuttle reservation you must call 864-235-1234 at least 48 hours in advance to schedule.
