A carbon footprint is a picture of the overall greenhouse gas emissions of a product over its lifecycle. The accounting begins with emissions associated with extracting or growing raw materials and ends with the emissions associated with reusing or disposing of the product. NCASI has developed a number of carbon footprinting tools and has authored several publication applying carbon footprinting to industry-relevant issues, including undertaking industry-wide footprints. These resources can help our Member Companies communicate with stakeholders regarding the carbon resources used and/or stored in the production of forest products.
The Environmental Footprint Comparison Tool (EFCT) is a website designed to help stakeholders understand the challenges that forest products companies face in simultaneously meeting a broad array of environmental objectives.
NCASI provides resources that cover topics associated with forest products industry carbon footprinting, including webcasts, reports, and peer-reviewed journal articles.
The Forest Industry Carbon Assessment Tool™ (FICAT™) was developed by NCASI to help characterize the life cycle greenhouse gas impacts of the activities associated with mills or companies producing forest products.
