Calculation Tools for Greenhouse Gas Emissions & Carbon
Since 2002, NCASI has developed and maintained a suite of calculation tools that can be used to estimate greenhouse gas emissions and/or carbon associated with the manufacturing of forest products. Most of these tools are publicly available; however, some are available to NCASI Members only. Two of these tools–the GHG Calculation Tools for Pulp & Paper Mills and the GHG Calculation Tools for Wood Products Facilities–have been reviewed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and are available as tools associated with the WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Questions regarding these tools should be directed to Kirsten Vice.
The Forest Industry Carbon Assessment Tool™ (FICAT™) was developed by NCASI to help characterize the life cycle greenhouse gas impacts of the activities associated with mills or companies producing forest products.
This tool estimates the majority of Scope 3 emissions for a forest products company by focusing on Scope 3 Categories that typically have the greatest potential effect in our industry.
This Microsoft Excel®-based tool is designed to illustrate greenhouse gas (GHG) amounts reported by Canadian forest products facilities to the Federal GHG Emissions Reporting Program (GHGRP).
NCASI has developed a Tool to Calculate Carbon Stored in Forest Products to characterize the fate of biogenic carbon as products travel through the value chain.
The Carbon On Line Estimator (COLE) is a Java-based program developed to enable examination of forest carbon characteristics of any area of the continental US.
