Background
Barry Malmberg was awarded the prestigious US Fulbright Scholarship in 1998 to conduct research at the Swedish Pulp and Paper Research Institute in Stockholm, where he worked on the “Eco-cyclic Pulp Mill” program to make the Swedish pulp and paper industry more resource-efficient. After completing his Ph.D. in 2005, Barry joined NCASI as a Senior Research Engineer where he has produced Technical Bulletins, software tools, white papers and peer-reviewed publications in the areas of water consumption, water recycle, water profiles, low water use mill management, combined heat and power, and energy and greenhouse gas characterization for the North American pulp and paper industry. Barry is currently a Principal Research Scientist at NCASI, overseeing the organization’s environmental and energy benchmarking program and works in the areas of water and energy sustainability.
