Technical Bulletin No. 0953: NCASI Method AQ-S108.01 – Anthraquinone in Uncoated Papers and Market Pulps by Soxhlet Extraction and GC/MS

Work to develop an analytical procedure quantifying anthraquinone in pulps and uncoated papers is reported, and the resulting formal method provided as NCASI Method AQ-S108.01. The final method calls for Soxhlet extraction of nominal 5 g samples using ethanol, followed by a silica gel cleanup and analysis of final extracts by full-scan Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS).
