Technical Bulletin No. 0890: A Quantitative Approach to Assessing the Length of Long-Term River Studies

This report addresses the need for a quantitative approach to determine appropriate time lengths for ecological studies. A literature review of long-term ecological studies published over the last 20 years revealed a lack of applied methodology in determining appropriate time lengths for these studies. In order to address this issue, a method was developed for determining the study time requirement by focusing on the questions posed by the study.
