The sustainability and magnitude of yields harvested from commercial forests is a current technical issue and societal concern. Practices that involve use of heavy equipment or intensive removal of organic matter from the site are a potential threat to sustainability of high yields. The technical issue of how to investigate sustainability remains difficult to address.
