Technical Bulletin No. 0796: Process Water Quality and Water Reuse Practices at Low- and Zero-Discharge Recycled Paperboard Mills
The objective of this study was to identify and describe water quality and recycle and reuse practices at low- and zero-discharge recycled paperboard mills. This study is an update and expansion of a 1975 NCASI study to assist mills in their efforts to close up their process water systems. To characterize water quality, process water and product samples were collected at five recycled paperboard mills discharging less than 500 gal/ton (one mill is zero discharge). Analytical data were obtained that reflect current process water quality requirements at various application points and characterize the sources of process water reused within the mill.
