The literature on effluent management for the pulp and paper industry is reviewed herein, with 268 references included. The review is arranged into the following subject areas, with the number of references for each shown in parentheses: Aerobic Treatment (83); Anaerobic Treatment (8); Physicochemical Treatment (25); Internal Load Control (103); and Residuals Management (49). All sections, except Internal Load Control and Residuals Management, deal with treatment of either whole mill effluent, or, in some instances, bleach plant effluent.
