Technical Bulletin No. 0737: Volatile Organic Compound Emissions from Non-Chemical Pulp and Paper Mill Sources, Part II – Recycled Paperboard and Old Corrugated Container Stock Pre

A dilution-probe ambient temperature canister method, a solid sorbent method, a modified Method 25A, a direct injection GC/FID method, a solvent extraction GC/MS process liquid analysis method, and EPA Method 8260 for volatiles were used to collect and analyze vent gas and process liquid samples from the recycled paperboard and old corrugated container (OCC) mill stock preparation areas at two mills. The study found that the “hazardous air pollutant” (HAP) and VOC emissions from these sources were very small and similar in characteristics. The major HAP emissions from the recycled paperboard stock preparation area were acetaldehyde, carbon disulfide, methanol, and toluene.
