Technical Bulletin No. 0734: An Analytical Method For, and Characterization of, Catechol and Phenol in Black Liquor and Pulp Mill Wastewaters

NCASI developed a method to determine catechol and phenol concentrations in weak and strong black liquor, wastewater treatment plant influent, and biologically treated effluent samples from kraft and semichemical pulp and paper mills. This method is similar to CP-86.06, and involves in-situ derivatization of the analytes using base and acetic anhydride followed by extraction.
