Technical Bulletin No. 0722: Effects of Biologically-Treated Bleached Kraft Mill Effluent on the Early Life Stage and Life Cycle of Pimephales promelas and Ceriodaphnia dubia: A
Fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas) life cycle, 56-d, 28-d, and 7-d bioassays, and Ceriodaphnia dubia 7-d bioassays were conducted using effluent from a bleached kraft pulp mill with oxygen delignification (OD), elemental chlorine free (ECF) bleaching, and secondary treatment. Several sum parameters such as AOX, BOD, COD, and many organic compounds were measured frequently in this effluent. The results of these studies were compared to effluent from this mill before OD and when Cl2, was used in the bleaching process.
