Technical Bulletin No. 0713: Estimates of Chloroform Generation from Papergrade Kraft Mills Using Complete Substitution Bleaching

This report presents data for chloroform measured in liquid bleach plant effluents at 23 papergrade kraft pulp bleach lines using complete chlorine dioxide substitution. Of the 23 bleach lines for which data were available, 18 used vacuum drum washing systems and five used diffusion washing systems. These data were analyzed and used to describe the distribution of chloroform loadings in bleach plant effluents.
