Technical Bulletin No. 0648: Growth Variations in Old Growth Douglas-Fir Forests of the Puget Sound Area

Old-growth Douglas-fir stands were identified in areas relatively free of air pollution and downwind of urban/industrial areas of Puget Sound. Tree rings were sampled to determine the patterns of radial growth. Climate was compared with growth and normal growth trends related to tree age were removed from the patterns where necessary. Ring-width variability related to short-term growth trends and disturbance effects was also removed.
