Technical Bulletin No. 0616: Bleach Plant Chlorine and Chlorine Dioxide Emissions and their Control

The mechanism by which chilled water, sodium hydroxide, bleach plant E filtrate, sulfur dioxide, weak wash, sodium hydrosulfide, and white liquor scrub chlorine and chlorine dioxide from bleach plant vent gases has been described, and the theory of gas absorption accompanied by rapid chemical reaction has been reviewed. The results of studies conducted at a number of installations to measure uncontrolled emissions of chlorine and chlorine dioxide from bleach plant vents and determine the effectiveness of chlorine and chlorine dioxide scrubbing media listed above have been presented. The results have also been used to estimate the overall heights of transfer units and mass transfer rates for various scrubbing media.
