Technical Bulletin No. 0613: Characterization of Wastes and Emissions from Mills Using Recycled Fiber

As the paper industry continues to expand its reliance on recycled fiber, the need increases for information describing the characteristics of wastes and emissions from (a) existing recycled fiber processing technologies and (b) new or emerging processes which will be needed to increase the use of recycled fiber. In this bulletin, existing information on the characteristics of wastewaters, solid wastes, and atmospheric emissions resulting from recycled fiber operations is summarized. The origins of wastes released to air, water and earth media are identified and treatment technologies for wastewater and sludge disposal alternatives reviewed.
