Technical Bulletin No. 0612: Full-Scale Experience with the Use of Screw Presses for Sludge Dewatering in the Paper Industry

In 1990, NCASI conducted a survey of companies operating screw presses. The survey solicited information regarding screw press performance, design characteristics, preventative maintenance and repair, polymer usage, and pilot-scale to full-scale performance comparisons. Data were provided by 28 respondents representing 61 screw presses. The majority of the presses were less than four years old. Sludge-feed composition ranged from 100 percent primary sludge to combined sludges with as much as 60 percent secondary solids.
