Technical Bulletin No. 0603: Progress in Reducing Water Use and Wastewater Loads in the U.S. Paper Industry

In 1989, NCASI surveyed its membership to obtain information on wastewater and solid waste management practices. Data from this survey effort and other sources document reductions in water use and effluent flows of approximately 30 percent in the period 1975 - 1988 and 7 to 9 percent in the period 1985 - 1988. In 1988, it required 70 percent less water to make a ton of paper than in 1959.
