Technical Bulletin No. 0602: The New Alsea Watershed Study

The Alsea Watershed Study in coastal Oregon from 1959 - 1973 was the first to look at the hydrologic and biologic impacts of forest management. One watershed was completely clearcut to the stream, another received a patch cut with buffers around the stream, and a third was monitored as the control. The results of this study pointed to control measures, such as stream management zones, which are now commonly used as state Best Management Practices and Forest Practice Rules.
