Technical Bulletin No. 0601: Spotted Owl Presence in Managed Forest of Southwestern Washington

A survey was conducted for Northern Spotted Owls in 1987 and 1988 in primarily young, managed Douglas-fir forests in southwestern Washington. Eight study sites were located based on three criteria: (1) >10,000 acres in size; (2) stands primarily 40 - 120 years old; and (3) increasing distance from known owl populations on the Olympic Peninsula and Cascades Mountain Range. Four such study sites were surveyed in 1987.
