Technical Bulletin No. 0592: Impact of Burning Oil as Auxiliary Fuel in Kraft Recovery Furnances Upon SO2 Emissions – Part II

The relationship between burning medium sulfur oil as auxiliary fuel in kraft recovery furnaces and sulfur dioxide emissions has been examined. Technical bulletin No. 578 investigated this relationship in furnaces with average sulfur dioxide emission levels between 0 and 100 ppm, whereas this bulletin covers furnaces with average sulfur dioxide emission levels in the 100 to 500 ppm range. Mill-generated CEMS sulfur dioxide data from one furnace and the results of field tests conducted at two furnaces are presented.
