Technical Bulletin No. 0584: Application of Monte Carlo Simulation for the Analysis of Uncertainty in Groundwater Contaminant Transport Modeling

The prediction of the evolutional behavior of a pollutant in the subsurface, using groundwater models, is necessary to plan remedial actions at existing sites and may also be useful in siting and designing new land-based waste treatment or disposal facilities. In addition, groundwater models are being used increasingly by regulatory agencies to develop land disposal regulations. Most models used to make such predictions assume that the system behaves deterministically.
