Technical Bulletin No. 0580: Burning Sludge from Bleach Kraft Mills in Bark-Fired Boilers: A Study of PCDD/F Concentrations in the Combustion Ashes

This technical bulletin presents the results of a study designed to investigate the effects of burning sludge of bleached mill origin, admixed with bark, on the presence of PCDD/Fs in boiler and control device(s) ashes. Four combination boilers combusting bark were tested during a "low to no" sludge burning period and a "moderate to high" sludge burning period. One mill boiler was retested during early 1989.
