Technical Bulletin No. 0540: The Evaluation of Biological Treatment Process Influent Variability and its Impact on Treated Effluent Quality in Selected Pulp and Paper Industry Trea

This technical bulletin examines the variability that exists in the influent to a large number of biological treatment processes representative of the control technology employed in the industry. The treatment processes reviewed in this bulletin are operating in systems which are achieving a 90 percent reduction in BOD5 and an 88 percent reduction in suspended solids. These efficiencies in performance exceed those normally associated with the secondary treatment of municipal wastewater in POTWs.
