Technical Bulletin No. 0527: Acidic Deposition and Forest Soil Biology
A frequently hypothesized effect of acidic deposition on forests is disruption of soil biological processes leading to reduced nutrient availability or increased incidence of disease. This has inspired many field and laboratory experiments. Some experiments produced statistically significant responses of soil organisms to acidic deposition treatments, but the question of whether treatments were realistic simulations of actual or potential acidic deposition rates was often ignored.
