Technical Bulletin No. 0521: Development and Laboratory Evaluation of Improved Iodometric Methods for Determining Chlorine and Chlorine Dioxide in Pulp and Paper Industry Workplace
This report describes results of studies, conducted by NCASI staff during 1984 through 1986, addressing the laboratory development and validation of analysis methods for chlorine and chlorine dioxide in pulp bleach plant workplace atmospheres. Five methods were developed, and four of these were tested according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) method validation protocol (refer to Section II-C). All four methods produced precision and accuracy results which established them as acceptable methods according to the NIOSH criterion; however, one of these methods, the single buffer dual pH potassium iodide method with direct 350 nm spectrophotometric finish, is the simplest method to employ of all of those developed, and it is this method which is preferred for use by NCASI staff.
