Technical Bulletin No. 0488: A Cooperative Study to Examine Treated Pulp and Paper Industry Effluents for Settleable Solids
A cooperative study was conducted to develop data on the capability of in-place control technology to capture settleable solids. Participants included a number of pulp and paper mills, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and NCASI. Sixteen mills representing eleven categories of pulp and/or paper production conducted a twelve month study to characterize the settleable quantity of the total suspended solids in the treated discharges. Thirteen of the mills provide some form of biological treatment while the remaining three mills practice chemically assisted mechanical clarification.
