Technical Bulletin No. 0476: A Literature Review of the Possible Effects of Gas Supersaturation on Aquatic Organisms
This bulletin is a review of the scientific literature with respect to the question of oxygen supersaturation. References were selected in which oxygen supersaturation effects alone were tested, or if in combination with nitrogen supersaturation the oxygen component had been quantified and its relative effects considered. The great majority of the literature had been devoted to the salmonids, in part a product of earlier nitrogen gas supersaturation problems associated with hydroelectric facilities in the Pacific Northwest and in part an expression of the intense familiarity man has with this group of fish through experience in hatchery programs.
