Technical Bulletin No. 0446: The Development and Application of a Method for Determining Gas Transfer in Full Scale Biological Treatment Systems

In the past, the determination of reaeration rate was either empirical or determined by use of a radioactive tracer. To our knowledge only one firm in the US is licensed to work with the radioactive tracer. More importantly, however, the method has severe limitations in that the quantities of radioactive material required to determine reaeration rates in a number of situations are sufficiently large to restrict or prohibit its use.
