Technical Bulletin No. 0442: Research on the Effects of Forest Harvesting, Drainage, Mechanical Site Preparation, and Prescribed Fire on Water Quality
This technical bulletin includes five presentations on water quality response to forest management practices from the 1984 Southern Regional Meeting. Assessing forest management impacts on water quality and identifying nonpoint source control options is an important issue as EPA and Congress actively reevaluate strategies for all nonpoint source categories. Information on the impacts of various drainage, mechanical sites preparation, prescribed fire, and harvesting practices in poorly drained or rocky soils that are typical of large portions of the South will be important in guiding future water-quality protection practices.
