Technical Bulletin No. 0438: Evaluation of Bacterial Augmentation of an Activated Sludge Process

This technical bulletin is a product of the Council's long-term mill cooperative investigative program drawing on the National Council staff and company resources for investigations. The bulletin summarizes experience with bacterial augmentation of biological treatment processes to improve performance and includes a report on supplemental bacteria inoculation of a full scale activated sludge process treating a bleached kraft mill effluent. Periodic reference has been made to modifying biological treatment performance through the addition of specific strains of microorganisms.
