Technical Bulletin No. 0423: Effects of Biologically Treated Bleached Kraft Mill Effluent on the Periphyton Community in Southern Experimental Streams for 1979 to 1981

This technical bulletin describes observations made regarding the periphyton community when biologically treated bleached kraft mill effluent was added at the Southern Experimental Streams facility during the years of 1979 to 1981. In that investigation, effluent additions accounted for 1.6 and 2.1 mg/L BOD added. Against a control stream condition where normal color levels were about 70 and 140 true and apparent color units respectively, the effluent added accounted for mean incremental additions of about 100 true and about 260 apparent color units respectively.
