Technical Bulletin No. 0421: Effects Of Biologically Treated Bleached Kraft Mill Effluent On The Periphyton Community In Southern Experimental Streams For 1976 And 1977
This bulletin describes the observations made with regard to the periphyton community during 1976 and 1977 when biologically treated bleached kraft mill effluent was being added in amounts to increase (a) stream BOD about 0.5 ppm and 1 ppm, and (b) color up to approximately 200 ppm. This represented mean effluent additions of about 4 and 7 percent by volume for the two years of study. During the course of these two years of study neither differences in the growth nor production of fish populations was observed, nor was the macroinvertebrate biomass or community structure altered as the result of addition of the effluent.
