Technical Bulletin No. 0420: A Review Of Models For Estimating The Effect of Forestry Management Practices On Yield and Transport Of Materials To Receiving Waters

This technical bulletin reviewed what, at the time, were considered state of the art in modeling the yield and transport of materials to receiving waters resulting from alternate forest management practices. The bulletin was prepared with two audiences in mind: managers who required an overview of the cause and effect relationships known to exist in the forest ecosystem, and experienced hydrologists requiring a more detailed understanding of the models. The review focused on the three models then used or emerging in modeling hydrologic and transport in forested areas:(a) Water Resource Evaluation of Non-Point Silvicultural Sources (WRENS), (b) Colorado State University Hydrologic Simulation for Generalized Forest Management Alternative Planning Model (CSU), and (c) Non-Point Source Pollutant Loading Model (NPS).
