Technical Bulletin No. 0412: A Laboratory Investigation Of Techniques For Instrumentally Measuring Chlorine And Chlorine Dioxide In The Pulp Bleaching Area Workplace

This technical bulletin presents results of three laboratory studies pertinent to the determination of chlorine dioxide by instrumental methods. First, the effectiveness of several chemical "filters" in removing sulfur dioxide and reduced sulfur compounds from test gases while passing chlorine and chlorine dioxide was investigated; although sulfur dioxide removal was effective, none of the filters examined would remove reduced sulfur compounds and passed chlorine dioxide. Second, relative responses of five commercially available instrumental chlorine monitors to chlorine dioxide were determined, and these responses ranged from no response to chlorine dioxide to a greater than 3 to 1 response of chlorine dioxide over chlorine.
