Technical Bulletin No. 0411: A Laboratory Investigation Of The Use Of Commercial Detector Tubes For The Measurement Of Chlorine And Chlorine Dioxide In Pulp Bleaching Area Workplac

The attached technical bulletin was the third in a series of National Council publications addressing the measurement of chlorine and chlorine dioxide in pulp bleaching area workplace atmospheres. The report presents results of a laboratory investigation of the use of commercially available length-of-stain detector tubes for making these measurements, in test atmospheres containing chlorine, chlorine dioxide, humidity, and sulfur dioxide. The test results indicated that chlorine detector tubes (a) were reasonably accurate for measuring chlorine in atmospheres containing chlorine only; (b) might show a negative interference due to sulfur dioxide; and (c) exhibited a significant interference when exposed to chlorine dioxide.
