Technical Bulletin No. 0395: A Study of Foaming and Its Possible Causes on the Androscoggin River

A cooperative study was conducted by the Maine mills and the National Council to determine if foam sightings on the Androscoggin could be correlated with a number of parameters suspected to influence its presence. Findings showed that foaming incidence was highly variable and could not be generally correlated with those parameters commonly considered to have an impact on river foaming. The observations and analysis indicate that the factors and their interactions which control foam levels on the Androscoggin River were highly complex.
