Technical Bulletin No. 0393: Laboratory and Field Examination of Several Alarm-type H2S Area and Personal Monitors for Use in the Kraft Pulp Mill Workplace Environment

This technical bulletin describes the results of extensive laboratory evaluations and field studies carried out in the chemical recovery area and the pulp manufacturing area workplace environments at a kraft pulp mill to examine the performance of twelve hydrogen sulfide personal monitors and area monitors. An instrument evaluation protocol developed by NCASI, for use in laboratory and field evaluations of workplace monitors, is also described. Relative to the personal monitors, laboratory tests showed significant differences in precision, linearity, response times, and response to other sulfur gases for the five monitors that were examined.
