Technical Bulletin No. 0390: Air Quality Protection Aspects of Forestry Management

This is the third in the series of technical bulletins generated from presentations at these regional meetings. In the first of a series of four papers at the West Coast Regional Meeting, H. Van Miegroat and D. W. Cole, University of Washington, discussed the effects of acid deposition on soil nutrient status and solution acidity with special reference to the basic mechanisms and forest soils of the Pacific Northwest. This presentation was drawn from research supported by the Electric Power Research Institute through Oak Ridge National Laboratory, L. C. Duncan, Central Washington University, described the results of a precipitation monitoring program in the Washington Cascades and a concurrent examination of the water quality of lakes in the region with respect to acidification.
