Technical Bulletin No. 0389: The Status of Forestry Management-Related Water Quality Protection Regulatory Programs

The attached technical bulletin contained six papers on the status of forestry management-related state and federal water quality protection regulatory programs. Charles W. Hollis, U.S. Corps of Engineers, reviewed the current status of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act as it applies to Southern forests and examined possible changes that may affect decisions by forest and resource managers. Albert Herndon, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, described the achievements of Section 208 of the Clean Water Act and described the benefits of effective voluntary type non-point source control best management practices in forestry management if more restrictive controls were to be avoided.
