Technical Bulletin No. 0311: Response of Selected Paper Industry Sludges to Alternate Solid Waste Toxic Extraction Procedures
Leachates from the disposal of solid waste in the land are one of the major concerns of the EPA in carrying out the provisions of the Resource and Recovery Act of 1976. While the regulations governing the disposal of solid waste in the land have not yet been promulgated there has been a well-identified intent in the regulation development to characterize these materials as safe or hazardous based on the laboratory generated potential leachate properties. An array of solid waste contacting procedures and effluents have been used or developed under EPA contract in an effort to generate a simulated leachate representative of that produced in a landfill.
