Technical Bulletin No. 0307: Bioassay Results of Kraft Mill Effluent at Artificially Elevated Levels of Biosolids
The potential adverse impact of residual non-settleable biosolids in biologically treated pulp and paper mill effluents on the aquatic community has been one justification for the selection of effluent guidelines for these suspended solids which are not consistently compatible with the control technology installed for effluent quality improvement. Reduction of residual solids beyond that currently achieved by in-place control technology capable of high efficiency BOD reduction, would frequently require supplemental treatment.
