Technical Bulletin No. 0266: Pilot Plant Studies of Turbidity and Residual Cell Material Removal from Mill Effluent by Granular Media Filtration
For some time the National Council has been interested in finding ways to polish treated mill effluents by removal of non-settleable suspended solids and turbidity (a) to improve their aesthetic acceptability, (b) to prepare such effluents for subsequent "advanced waste treatment" dependent for application on high clarity, and (c) to accomplish further BOD removal. While current receiving water quality standards seldom call for such additional control measures, it was felt that such added technological control capabilities should be pursued in anticipation of the appearance of such needs in the future.
