Technical Bulletin No. 0122: Development Studies on the Removal of Color from Caustic Extract Bleaching Effluent by the Surface Reaction Process II
Results of pilot plant development studies on the "surface reaction” technique, for removing color from caustic extraction bleachery waste, are contained in the attached National Council Technical Bulletin. Together with the results of these investigations are estimates of the costs of applying this unit process. While found to be very effective for the removal of color, operational problems, and both capital and operating cost appear to limit its usefulness to small waste flowages, or for the recovery of saleable by-products from effluents highly colored by wood extractive. In view of the presently more attractive avenues of research, in respect to color removal, continued research on this process is not planned.
