Technical Bulletin No. 0109: Interaction of Nuclear Radiation with Pulping Waste Products
Dr. Ernest Henley, of Columbia University, has submitted his final report on the Council's Project exploring possible uses of gamma radiation in treating or recovering by-products from pulping wastes. Technical Bulletin No. 109, hereto attached, is a summary of this report. Since it appears from this research that gamma radiation in reasonable dosages has very little effect on the oxygen demand of pulping liquors, alters the nature of the liquor constituents only slightly, and has no detectable effect on sulfur compounds, work along these lines will be discontinued for the present.
