Technical Bulletin No. 0083: Characteristics and Disposal of Neutral Sulfite Semi-chemical Wastes – A Unified Summary
The attached Technical Bulletin was prepared on the recommendation of the Council’s South Central Regional Committee. It contains a substantially complete summary of research, development, and practice in handling and treating spent process waters from neutral sulfite semi-chemical pulping. While a considerable amount of the work reported consists of research conducted at the Council's Virginia Polytechnic Institute Project, much has been contributed by individual companies employing this process or contemplating its use. Research on this problem is continuing and will be intensified in the coming year. This bulletin will be followed shortly by another consisting of a compilation of analytical methods suggested for evaluating the pollutional strength of semi-chemical effluents. The latter is being prepared on recommendation of the new Neutral Sulfite Semi-Chemical Wastes Committee.
