Technical Bulletin No. 0081: A Laboratory and Field Study of Reduced Sulfur Sampling and Monitoring Systems (AQTB)
Field investigations conducted during the course of this study have demonstrated the need for frequent and routine calibration of complete gas sample handling systems, rather than the detector alone. Several alternatives for selection of calibration gas exist. None other than Teflon permeation tubes have the advantage of source gas generation rate validation by weighing, a means which is available at all mills. Teflon permeation tubes are at this time therefore considered to be the only primary standard for sources of reduced sulfur gases. The information developed during the course of the study is expected to have immediate use in a cooperative program between EPA and National Council staff. This program is directed toward the preparation of system specifications for the monitoring of TRS, a component part of new source performance standards for kraft pulping which are currently under development.
