Technical Bulletin No. 0062: Treatment of Calcium-organic Sludges Obtained from Lime Treatment of Kraft Pulp Mill Effluents Part I

In accordance with the request of the Southern Regional Technical Sub-Committee of the Council, the enclosed report covering research at the Louisiana State University project on color removal from kraft pulping effluents was prepared. This report covers mainly investigations on a new technique for handling the residue from lime precipitation by means of which it is hoped that lime recovery, as well as incineration of the color bodies, can be obtained on integration with the existing mill chemical recovery system. Since completion of the experiments reported herein the research has continued and will be summarized in future technical bulletins as it progresses.
